Watercolor Methodology

Watercolor Methodology is a course that focuses on the process and planning behind watercolor painting, not just the techniques. You’ll learn how to think like an artist—how to approach a painting from idea to final piece. This includes studying composition, value, color harmony, layering strategies, and how to plan your steps before you even pick up a brush.

The class may include:

  • Analyzing how artists use watercolor intentionally

  • Developing thumbnails or value sketches

  • Practicing methodical layering and glazing

  • Exploring how to control timing, water ratios, and drying stages

  • Learning how to troubleshoot and refine your work

This course is ideal for students who already know basic watercolor techniques and want to deepen their understanding of the medium as a thoughtful, structured art form.
